We discussed purchasing a new saw with a company that specializes in making precision gears. They need a saw to cut 1”-16” 8620, stainless steel, and H13 material.
After reviewing their needs, we suggested a double-column horizontal band saw made by Hydmech. The Hyd-Mech H-18A will do a fantastic job of cutting solid bars. This saw comes equipped with split front vises which drastically reduce the burr left on a cut part, and guide arms that are timed with the opening and closing of the front vise. This will ensure their guides are always as close to the material as possible when cutting which will give them straighter cuts.
Often, when a company cuts a wide range of diameters, saw operators will not always move the guide arms to fit each cut – they will just have them wide open for convenience. Unfortunately, that doesn’t allow for the most efficient setups and results in crooked cuts. With the automatic guide arm timed to the vises, the saw makes sure the guide arm is in the correct spot every time.
The Hyd-Mech H-18A is a horizontal band saw with an automatic guide arm the client needs.
